Western Union’s GlobalPay for Students platform receives double award nomination

LONDON – November 16, 2017 – The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU), a leader in global payments services, has been shortlisted for two awards at The Cards & Payments Awards for their innovative GlobalPay for Students platform.

The company has been nominated for the Best Alternative or Digital Payments Programme and Best Technology Initiative of the Year awards, and the winners will be announced in February next year. Now in their thirteenth year, the awards aim to recognise customer service, excellence and innovation in the UK and Irish card and payments industry.

Earlier this year, Western Union unveiled a major upgrade of its digital payments platform for international college students, offering universities a game-changing fintech solution in payments and reconciliation.  The enhanced WU GlobalPay for Students platform enables academic institutions to more efficiently receive, reconcile, refund and track payments from international students. The platform is designed to help universities and colleges around the world simplify the reconciliation of incoming international tuition payments, which can be a complex and time-consuming process.

‘It’s hugely gratifying to see our GlobalPay for Students platform get recognition for the work it does in simplifying the payments process for universities and international students,’ said Adam Tiberi, Vice President and Global Head of Product at Western Union Business Solutions. “As a business, we feel strongly that everyone should have the opportunity to study at any institution in any country, and we’re thrilled to see that our products and services are helping to make that happen.

“It’s an honour to be nominated for such a prestigious industry award, and the whole GlobalPay for Students team is looking forward to meeting the other finalists and celebrating everyone’s achievements next February,” Tiberi said.

“The Card & Payments Awards seek to recognise excellence and continued innovation in the UK and Irish card and payments industries,” said Katie Crowe, Event Director, The Cards & Payments Awards. “Each year many eligible organisations compete for one of the prestigious awards which are judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

“Final nominees for the awards were selected based on the quality of their Customer Value Proposition, and their ability to display innovation, commercial success, transparency, speed of adoption and creativity across a range of topics, including technology, mobile payments, marketing, design and payments processing,” Crowe continued.
