Greenback rallies post Irma

The greenback was stronger overnight as US markets were boosted after Hurricane Irma passed the US mainland with less damage than expected.

US sharemarkets jumped higher with the benchmark S&P 500 up 1.2% and closing at its highest ever level.

The US dollar was supported by this optimism.

Euro weaker

The euro weakened after last week’s European Central Bank meeting delayed any move to end stimulus.

The Japanese yen was sold lower in line with gains in the USDJPY.

Overnight, UK inflation numbers could pressure the British pound, while US job openings will be the major US data.
